The Workforce Investment and Opportunity Act (WIOA) replaces the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and will be in effect for a five year period (2015-2020)

The purpose of WIOA is to better align the workforce system with education and economic development in an effort to create a collective response to economic and labor market challenges on the national, state, and local levels.

ALLIES will monitor federal WIOA legislation and seek opportunities to advocate for adult English language learners’ access to workforce development services.

ALLIES staff is participating in the 2017 National Skills Coalition Immigrant Workforce Policy Academy, exploring ways to engage in WIOA policy advocacy through peer learning and alliance building.
